Skin Fitness Resolutions

While it’s true, there’s never a better time to make a resolution to improve your fitness, than the first day of a new year, it’s never too late to take on a new resolution to improve the look and feel of your skin.

Anthony McDonough, co-founder of Lqd Skin Care offers advice to ensure your skin is as healthy as you are.

The good news is that if you’ve already made the resolution to get to the gym more often, eat healthier, less processed foods and drink more water, you are already on the right path to having better skin as well.

There are however a few simple steps you can add in to your weekly routine to ensure your skin is looking the best it can in no time. The first thing to think about when it comes to your skin is knowing that any ingredient that irritates the skin causing premature aging  in the form of wrinkles. You might not see them straight away, but over time they start to reveal themselves as fine lines.

So, make sure whatever you put on your skin doesn’t contain known skin irritants. And what’s the single biggest skin irritant in skin care you might ask? It’s added fragrances – so avoid these highly fragrant products at all cost.

Then when it comes to looking after your skin is doesn’t need to be a complicated process. Firstly, make sure you are washing your skin morning and night and always after exercise. Use a low foaming pH balanced face wash that doesn’t contain sulfates, so that you remove the sweat, grime and oil build up, without stripping your skin of its natural oils.  Step 2 is as simple as rehydrating your skin, with a high quality moisturiser, that is full of anti-oxidants and vitamins, to ensure the skin is nourished and protected from wrinkle causing free radicals.

The third and final step in any men’s skin care regime to have great skin is to be exfoliating 1-2 times per week with a glycolic acid based scrub. Just substitute your face wash with a scrub twice a week and you’ll quickly have all the girls in the office complimenting you on how great your skin is looking.

Why glycolic acid you might ask? Well what you might not know is that it’s one of a group of acids known as alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). Glycolic acid is found naturally in sugar cane and grapes and works by breaking down the substances that bond dead skin cells beneath the top layer of skin. Dead skin cells, which contribute to clogged pores and dull skin, can then be rinsed away.

Glycolic acid is also a natural exfoliant which leaves the skin looking softer and feeling smoother. Long term use of glycolic acid will diminish your fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots, while smoothing out uneven skin tones and even reducing the appearance of any surgical scars, acne scars, and other blemishes.

So with a couple of quick easy steps that won’t add hours to your morning routine, you can be improving the look and feel of your skin. So regardless of whether you manage to stick to your new years resolution to get fitter and healthier this year, at least you can still have great skin!
