LFL Gets Undieway

Bust out the binoculars — the excellent new sport of lingerie football is coming to Australia for two exciting exhibition games.

Readers of MF are stoked to learn that Liz Gorman, US Lingerie Football League star and “Get The Girl” favourite (MF, October 2011), is heading to Australia soon to play in two LFL matches. “I’d like to confirm that I’m officially stoked,” wrote Don Roswell from Welford North in WA in an email sent to MF at 2.15am.

The games will be staged at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on June 2 and Sydney’s Allphones Arena on June 9 to promote the launch of a homegrown Lingerie Football League in Australia next year.

Liz, who stars for the Tampa Breeze and who has been named LFL defensive player of the year three times, will front the Eastern Conference against the Western Conference, which includes Australian Chloe Butler, who runs outfor the LA Temptation.

Liz, 25, says she’s confident that Aussie sportslovers will get hooked on the game, which draws big crowds in the US. “Once you experience LFL there’s no going back,” she told MF. “I’m so excited to be able to visit Australia.”

She also reckons Aussie women will want to sign up immediately when they see how intense the action is in the arena. “They will stop a second to think about how the two elements of the league [sexy, athletic girls and hardcore football] go together, but the second they watch it or experience it first-hand, they will embrace it.”

Liz, 168cm tall and 57kg, is coached by former St Louis Rams wide receiver Yo Murphy, who played professionally for 14 years and whose training system has helped Liz shape a “Hybrid Training” program called H2 Hybrid Series.

She says she does speed agility drills and hybrid performance routines to keep her body in shape for the big hits she takes on the field, and cites turf-burn from sliding across the artificial surface as the most annoying injury.

The four-team Aussie league in 2013 will consist of sides from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.
