We are so excited that the 2018 Sun-Herald City2Surf ambasador is fitness guru and the original suitor on The Bachelor, Tim Robards! Tim is no stranger to the buzzing City2Surf course and can’t wait to hit the ground running with you all in 2018.
Tell us a little bit about yourself
I grew up in the coal-mining town, Newcastle. I once had a dream to play for the Newcastle Knights until I realised I’m better off treating and fixing the athletes as I was too injury prone.
You studied a Bachelor of Medical Science at Wollongong Uni in 2006 before completing a Master of Chiropractic in 2009. What excited you about being a Chiropractor?
I loved that I can mix my knowledge of science and physiology with having a practical skill with my hands. I’m constantly problem-solving in clinic, doing my best to get to the root cause of the problems, which usually is a mix of what you eat, how you move, and your mindset.
Congratulations! You’re about to marry Anna Heinrich. If Anna had to describe you in three words, what would she say?
I just asked her and she said, caring, motivated and determined.
You’re on Heartbreak Hill, the hardest part of the City2Surf course. What music would you be listening to for inspiration?
Rocky soundtrack… going the distance! A sure-fire way to put some spring in your step.
If you could do a workout with any 3 sporting legends, alive or passed, who would they be and why?
Arnold Schwarzenegger because he is the all-time greatest! The Rock because he is one of the hardest-working and determined people out there who knows how to have a laugh and enjoy life. Third would be a few rounds in the ring with old-school Rocky, maybe get my own training montage…
Tell us something that would surprise us about you.
I have 190 degree vision. Haha! I think it saved my life once when I had to jump off the back of my motorbike, Matrix-style, after a kid ran a red light in a van. I walked away without a scratch but my beloved bike went to Ducati heaven. I’m lucky to be here.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve taken away from being a national heartthrob on The Bachelor?
Continue to challenge and back yourself, because it’s through expanding your comfort zone where the real growth starts. A little bit of temporary discomfort opens up greater levels of enjoyment in life!
Rapid-fire questions…
What actor would you pick to portray you in a movie?
Eric Bana.
If you could only eat one meal ever again, what would it be?
Either spaghetti bolognese or a spaghetti marinara… with Balmain bugs.
What is your favourite dance jam?
Can’t go past anything Daft Punk to get the legs tapping.
Honeymoon: Prosecco at sunset on the Amalfi Coast, shoeless on a beach in Bali, or dressed in a tux in Vegas?
Turn that prosecco into an Aperol spritz at sunset on the Amalfi Coast and I’m there!
What was the last movie you watched at the cinema?
It was actually ‘Ready Player One’ by Spielberg. Was kind of a younger demographic movie, however, had lots of reference to my era of growing up in the 80s so was enjoyable and took me back to being a young teen.
